eSys rolls out Global Operations on Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision
eSys Distribution is amongst the world's six largest distributors of computer components. The company has operations across more than 25 countries and 65 points of presence. eSys subsidiaries employ in-country sales teams and carry local stocks. eSys was the largest Hard Disk Drive distributor in the world for Year 2003 with over 12 million disk drive unit sales. This corresponds to approximately 14% of Global HDD distribution sales. eSys is also the largest Distributor of Hynix Memory Chips (Asia & Europe) and a major player in other SI components. eSys extended the distribution efficiencies and relationships to materialize the concept of low cost Linux-based multimedia PC's. eSys ePC has been launched in India, Korea, Middle East and UK. In India, eSys ePC is credited with creating an entirely new category of low cost Linux PC's and is considered a major driver in the expansion of Indian PC market.

 

 
eSys chose Navision as its ERP Software for automation and integration of its various functions. The Navision solution is therefore rolled out to meet the needs of various eSys subsidiaries. All the countries have separate localization needs which needed to be addressed. For example, in the case of Indian operations. The following were identified as key localization requirements

Headquartered in Singapore, eSys Distribution (eSys) is one of the six largest distributors of computer components worldwide. Its business operations currently span across more than 25 countries. Besides, eSys also works with strategic partners in Switzerland, Spain, Portugal and Turkey. It is currently the largest distributor for HDD in the world, having secured about 15% share of the market in distribution in Asia, an estimated 15% plus across Europe and over 10% globally. It is also the largest distributor for VIA C3 CPUs, and Hynix memory in the region. The Group is also amongst the largest HDD and SI components distributors in India, Korea, Middle East, China and has significant market share in several other countries. It has also fully net-enabled B2B operations to promote higher productivity and efficiency.

eSys chose Navision as its ERP Solution for automation and integration of its Various functions. Rapidly expanding operations required eSys to make Navision operational for its new geographies. eSys also wanted a partner that could support Navision over its global operations. Usually, such supports needs meant interacting with different solution centers in different geographies. Management of these diversities was a challenge and eSys looked for a single point solution to support these global Navision implementation plus a Navision roll out for India. The Indian Navision implementation needed to be far more comprehensive and complex in terms of functionality than other countries and act as the role model for other countries. Experimenting with the launch of their own brand of PCs, eSys needed to build in Manufacturing, CRM and Service Management. The Navision solution is rolled out for various country operations. All countries are on separate databases with the country specific localization added to each country's database. All the databases however reside on a central server located in Singapore.

 :: Solution Summary
The separate localization needs of various eSys subsidiaries could be met by having seprate databases for each one of them. All the databases however reside on a Central Server located in Singapore, using a single installation of the Navision software. The software is accessed over a Citrix server to ensure good performance. Navision team from All e Technologies, comprising of Navision Certified Representatives, Technologists and Project Manager worked to meet the needs of eSys. All e Technologies has been providing Navision support and maintenance for the global needs of eSys. Amongst other needs, a new Returns Management module was developed and integrated with Navision.

All-e's team comprising Certified Navision Representatives and technologists worked with eSys team to ensure a successful Navision implementation. The solution required customization and the 'Returns Mnagement' functionality had to be built. With a very large number of orders and invoices every day, and the pressures of an aggressive sales organization cracking existing systems and processes, bringing the old data in to the system turned out to be a big challenge. To leverage the India cost advantage, eSys moved their world-wide back office operations to India. This required the India based team to work on all the individual country implementations and meet their daily needs. All e Technologies supported eSys to make sure that it was a smooth move. Several country implementations were upgraded from version 3.1 to 3.6.
