Different approaches have to be assessed for suitability for each upgrade project. One can do a pure Technical Upgrade (life & shift) which makes the old NAV system functionality available in Business Central but may not use the new features and functionality of Business Central. At the other extreme, there can be an approach for a complete reimplementation. This can be a preferred approach if the NAV instance is very old lots of unused customizations. A Technical upgrade may be completed in just 2 to 4 weeks, whereas a fresh implementation may take 3 to 6 months (depending on the size of the system and customization needs). A Hybrid approach will be somewhere in between. Another important decision to be taken when deciding on the upgrade approach is on. If all the old data needs to be migrated and made available on the new system, it can take significant time – depending on the volume of historical data, and its hygiene.
